spare tire and
trunk items
Importance of
inspecting spare tire on a used car:
Spare tire is
needed when you get a flat. Having it in proper condition and checking if you
have everything needed to replace in an emergency will give you some peace of
mind.
What to look for when
checking spare tire and trunk items?
First check that the actually has a
spare tire :) Usually it's underneath the carpeting inside the trunk. When you
find it, check the pressure or at least check it after buying the car. It should
be at the level specified in the owner's manual or on the tire itself. Next,
check to make sure you have jack and a breaker bar there. Those are essential
for emergency situations.
See if your car has wheel locks and if
it does, ask the dealership or the owner if they have the key for wheel locks.
You wouldn't be able to take the wheels off without the wheel lock and tire
shops charge around 100$ to remove them. Make sure the seller gives it to you if
you buy the car.
Make sure the spare tire is not bald
and doesn't have any cracks or other damage. Some spare tires are what's called
doughnut tires, meaning their diameter is slightly less than that of a regular
tire.
