power steering

Importance of checking power steering on a used car:

Power steering is an essential component and it's relatively simple to evaluate.

What to look for when checking power steering?

Power steering is relatively simple. If it's broken, it's going to be very hard to turn the steering wheel. Generally, power steering's most common problem is faulty power steering pump or leakages. The signs of failing power steering pump are: whistling noise when turning the wheel, harder to turn the wheel, when turning the steering wheel you might feel shakiness or "variable feedback". All these indicate problems or potential with either steering or suspension components. Checking for leaks can be rather hard without a lift. Check to make sure power steering fluid is at normal level. Be careful, the reservoir can be under slight pressure.
