finding the best used car insurance deal

I already have car insurance, why do I need to get new quotes?

You have to find out what your insurance costs are going to be for the car you're buying, since it can be quite a bit more expensive. If you have an insurance agent, you definitely need to consider getting internet quotes, as they can reduce your insurance premiums by literally thousands. At first, even we were with agents for years and thinking we had a good deal on car insurance. However, upon getting a few fast quotes online we were absolutely amazed by how much we could save. The savings were almost two thousand dollars a year for each of us. Getting quotes is free, easy, takes minutes and potential savings are tremendous.

Is it safe to apply online?

Absolutely. The technology used is 128-bit encryption that guarantees absolute safety of your information.

How much coverage should I buy?

Most states have a minimum required amount of coverage you have to buy to be able to drive a vehicle. Check with your local DMV for more information.

There are three major types of insurance coverage:

Liability/bodily injury - this insurance covers other people's property damage and their medical costs in case of an accident caused by you. Usually it's better to buy as much of this coverage as you can afford (few hundred thousand dollars to up-to a million or more dollars if you have significant assets). You may want to consider buying umbrella or excessive liability policy in order to better protect your assets. Usually this insurance coverage is represented in two numbers, one for each person and another per-accident.

Comprehensive - optional insurance coverage that protects your car in case of any non-accident damage, such as tree fall or hail damage.

Collision - collision insurance covers your own car in case of an accident caused by you.

Another important coverage is uninsured motorist coverage that protects you from uninsured or underinsured motorists in case of an accident caused by them.

Conclusion:

Insurance premiums can vary greatly for the same coverage from different companies. It really pays to get insurance quotes from different sources, compare and then decide.
