air conditioning

Importance of checking air conditioning on a used car:

Air conditioning is mostly an optional convenience accessory, however in some regions it's rather essential (such as Arizona or Florida), therefore ensuring it's working properly might really help you on that hot afternoon.

What to look for when checking air conditioning?

Well, this one is rather simple for a change :) To check it, simply turn it on and see if it blows cold air. If it smells like mold when you turn it on, it might need cleaning. If it blows barely cool air, it might need to be recharged. However, if it needs recharging, then it might indicate that there is a leak somewhere. Tacking down leaks and fixing them can be quite costly and has to be done with the mechanic, because of special hardware required. If you turn it on and nothing happens, then this is a clear indicator of malfunction, such as broken pump or many other possible problems, such as malfunctioning wiring or switch.

Conclusion:

Turn the A/C on and feel if it blows cool air. If it doesn't, then it's not working. If it blows cool air, it needs maintenance that can range from simple recharge to tracking down and fixing leaks.
